Music For Your Wedding Day
From the ceremony to the Last Dance, music creates the mood on your day. Can you
imagine a wedding in any culture, without music? Put some thought into the
atmosphere you would like throughout the day.
Given the huge choice you have today regarding music and the way it's delivered,
it's a good idea to hire experienced professionals. It may sound nice that your
brother's friend can bring an i-pod with 1000 songs on it along with a powered
speaker or two. But who's in charge of the music when it comes to the dance?
Is it a free-for-all? If it is, then that is a recipe for disaster!
A few things to consider when making your selection are:
- Will their style match your occasion?
- Do they play requests?
- What time do they start and finish?
The entertainment you select should be appropriate for all ages and tastes.
Requests are an important part of the evening. Can they interact with your
crowd and elevate the mood and create some energy? This is also the situation
for your cocktail music. Do you prefer a solo guitarist? A harpist, string
quartet or a stereo playing jazz?
But the most important music on the day is for your reception. Remember, this
is the longest part of your day and it is also the last part!
It will be what people remember the most.
Once again you have a huge choice: home stereo, jukebox, DJ, soloist, duo or band.
Only you know what will be right for your day. But when hiring someone there
are important details you need to discuss:
- Format and sound level of music
- When can they access the venue to set up and where can they set up?
- Can they provide quiet music for dinner?
- Do you need a microphone for your speeches?
- Choice of music: what you want, and their interaction with your guests
- Do they provide written confirmation outlining all details?
The best person to do all this for you is a professional Mobile Disc Jockey.
He or she will be able to manage all your music requirements from the ceremony
to the last dance. They will have all the correct equipment available and be
able to play every style of music. Along with that they will cater to your
needs regarding music, lighting & effects, and specialised equipment such as
microphones and music systems for your ceremony.
Meet with a few DJ's or at the very least, contact people or venues they have previously worked for.
This will give you a very good idea on what they do and how they present themselves on the day.
Look at cost too. Don't be put off by someone who you think is expensive - they may have an all
inclusive package from ceremony to Master of Ceremonies to the main reception.
But don't completely discount someone who is cheaper. They may be offering exactly what you need.
A good DJ will put his personality into your day; a great DJ will put YOUR personality into your day.
